A view of the far water's edge over Hollow Pond with a blue sky and wispy clouds above.

Leyton Flats is a popular area located between the Green Man roundabout and Whipps Cross Hospital, great for picnicking and exploring the Forest.

Hollow Pond is a short walk north-west and is a wonderful location for angling, walking or simply enjoying the scenery. You can also try your hand at boating.

Eagle Pond near Snaresbrook station is closed for fishing, but is very popular with swans and good for bird watching.

Things to do at Hollow Pond and Leyton Flats

  • Explore the Flats on foot, by bike or with your dog
  • Begin our Hornbeam Trail (170KB) to journey from the Flats up to Walthamstow Forest
  • Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch at the water's edge, in the grass or under the trees
  • Bring your rod and spend the day fishing at Hollow Pond
  • Hire a rowing boat at the Boat House and enjoy some time on the water
  • Bring your binoculars and watch the water fowl at Hollow Pond and Eagle Pond, or bring some duck food and feed them!

If picnicking, please take your litter home with you and note that barbecues are not permitted in Epping Forest. If feeding the birds, please give them oats, bird seed or duck food as bread lacks nutrition and can cause them health problems including defects in chicks.
