Sunshine pours into a clearing with bushes scattered about between unpollarded trees.

Pole Hill, Yate's Meadow and Yardley Hill are three of the highest points around the Chingford area and provide stunning views of the city. Pole Hill was also once home to T.E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia.

Yate's Meadow and Yardley Hill lie to the north of Pole Hill, through Hawk Wood, and offer the best views of the London skyline available in Epping Forest.

Things to do in Pole Hill and Yardley Hill

  • Explore the rolling Hawk Wood on foot or by bike
  • Enjoy a picnic against the spectacular backdrop of our capital
  • Fly a kite at one of the highest points in Chingford
  • Visit the Pole Hill Obelisk, erected on the Greenwich Meridian Line in 1824

If picnicking in the Forest, please take care not to litter. Please note too that barbecues are prohibited under our byelaws. Our byelaws can be enforced by fine or prosecution.
