Volunteer nature interpretation on Hampstead Heath.

There are a wide range of volunteering opportunities that you can get involved with across our Open Spaces. From practical conservation and ecological monitoring to delivering education sessions and helping to run events.

Heath Hands

Heath Hands is the volunteer organisation created to help preserve and enhance the special character of Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood and Kenwood Estate. Working in partnership with the City of London and English Heritage, Heath Hands delivers an inclusive volunteering programme for people of all backgrounds and abilities.

Open Spaces Learning Team

The Open Spaces Learning Team delivers engaging activities and projects for children, young people and families on Hampstead Heath. Volunteers can support these projects by becoming a Playing Wild volunteer or support youth participating in the Green Talent programme.

Learning volunteer

The City of London Corporation’s Open Space Learning team believes the best way for children and adults to connect to Open Spaces is to experience them. Hampstead Heath Schools programme encourages pupils to explore this beautiful open space through inspiring learning outdoor sessions.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who could support our Primary Schools Officer and Education Rangers with the delivery of this programme.

A Year 5 teacher at Christchurch Primary says ‘the schools programme at Hampstead Heath is a wonderful example of why outdoor learning is vital for children’s progress and development.'

We are looking for volunteer who are:

  • enthusiastic about learning in an outdoor setting
  • keen to work in a team of staff and volunteers
  • interested in developing skills in working with children and young people
  • comfortable being outdoors
