Cyclists and dog walkers bound both directions along a path.

Cycling is a wonderfully efficient and low carbon way of getting around, seeing the Heath and keeping fit and healthy, and responsible cyclists are very welcome at the Heath.

If you take your bicycle onto the Heath please be considerate of other Heath users. Hampstead Heath is not part of the transport network and it is important that cyclists know where they can cycle safely and responsibly so that they can enjoy the Heath while allowing all other visitors to enjoy it as well.

To that end, we ask that you please:

  • stay on authorised shared-use routes
  • do not exceed a speed of 12mph
  • slow down around pedestrians
  • always give way to pedestrians at all times
  • alert other users when approaching from behind

Some of Hampstead Heath's byelaws pertain to the guidelines laid out above, meaning that you may be fined or otherwise found in breach of the law if breaching them. For more information, please see our Hampstead Heath byelaws page.
