Visit West Wickham Common

Following Government instructions, please minimise your time spent outside and 'stay local'. The increased number of visitors to our open spaces are having a detrimental affect on the infrastructure and the biodiversity of these sites.

Explore pockets of heath, woodland and ancient earthworks on West Wickham Common; a compact site which offers wildlife, heritage and a far-reaching vista. Here you will find many woodland walks and a circular track which is ideal for a short visit or a starting point for exploring more of the surrounding countryside and nearby open spaces.

Through careful management of ancient oak pollards, the open 'wood pasture' habitat of West Wickham Common harks back to a time when the woodland produced timber for people. Nowadays, these gnarled and impressive veteran oaks are an important resource for birds, bats and fungi.

West Wickham Common is open all year round and is easily accessed by public transport. A small free car park is situated just off the Croydon Road.

Getting to West Wickham Common

Hayes Railway Station is located to the north of West Wickham Common and can be accessed by walking part of the London LOOP path. Alternatively, the Selkent Bus 246 connects from the station to the Common on Croydon Road. For travel times, please see the National Rail Enquiries website.

The Selkent Bus 246 runs from Bromley to Westerham. Please alight at Hartfield Cresent or Coney Hall. For travel times, please see the Transport For London website.
