London Metropolitan Archives has been re-awarded Archive Service Accreditation.*

Accredited Archive Services ensure the long-term collection, preservation and accessibility of our archive heritage. Accreditation is the new UK quality standard which recognises good performance in all areas of archive service delivery. Achieving accredited status demonstrates that LMA has met clearly defined national standards relating to management and resourcing; the care of its unique collections and what the service offers to its entire range of users.

* LMA was one of the first archive services to be awarded Archive Service Accreditation in 2014. Accreditation status is reviewed every three years and has to be re-applied for every six years

LMA is the largest local government archive repository in the United Kingdom. It is based in Clerkenwell and administered by the City of London Corporation. LMA holds 100km of local government and other records for the Greater London area and the City of London dating from the 11th century to the present. The archive of the City of London Corporation itself is one of the oldest, most complete and wide ranging civic archives in the world.

Former LMA Director Geoff Pick commented that the accreditation panel which made the award...

"...welcomed this impressive application from a major archive service which delivers across its extensive remit. They noted particularly the service’s success as a core element of the City of London Corporation's work; its proactive and successful engagement across diverse communities; a very strong management approach; and the range of improvement activity seen since its original successful application for the award."

"The assessors noted in their report summary that London Metropolitan Archives’s mission statement declares, 'We aim to provide a world class service aspiring to the highest standards that is open and engaging, innovative, inclusive, secure and sustainable.' It has demonstrated in this application how it is achieving this."
