Free enquiry service
Our basic enquiry service is free and provides information about the records we hold and the services we offer.
Note: We do not search through documents as part of this free service.
It is best to contact us by email if you can as it allows us time to give you a considered answer.
We answer all enquiries in order of receipt and our aim is to answer:
- 100% of general enquiries within 10 working days
- 100% of Paid Document Research Service enquiries within 20 working days

All enquiries sent to us are processed and answered via our LMAanswers system. All answers will generate a response from LibAnswers <email@example.com> and have a subject line of [Enquiries].
Sometimes these emails are caught in spam folders for in firewalls so please do ensure that you check these for an answer to your question.

We are unable to search through documents as part of our free enquiry service.
Records held at LMA
The vast majority of our collections are listed and described in the LMA Collections Catalogue and many of the key family history sources we hold, including Anglican parish registers, are available to use online through our partnership with Ancestry website.

In addition to this, the majority of LMA's collections are listed on the National Archives Discovery website (previously known as Access to Archives or A2A).
Family history sources NOT held at LMA
We do not hold any census data, (either on microfiche or online) or civil registration records of births, marriages and deaths.
