U3As are self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operatives for older people no longer in full time work, providing opportunities for their members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but for fun.

London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) welcomes numerous U3A groups and provides opportunities for them to pursue and share their interests.

U3A members can take advantage of our family history resources and expertise to research their family trees and have a go at hands-on genealogy.

We have also worked with the U3A in shared learning projects in order to tap into its member’s knowledge and memories. One such project was the “Their Past your Future Project” in which the LMA, U3A and local schools collaborated in order to explore memories and lived experiences across generations.
