Plan a romantic day out with your special someone

Looking for the perfect spot to propose to your loved one, celebrate a special occasion or somewhere to impress your date?

Then the City is the perfect place. As the oldest part of London, it is full of history, unique stories, iconic landmarks, world-class entertainment and places to eat and drink.

Here's our romantic top ten:

  1. Watch the sun set from the high level walkways at the Tower Bridge Exhibition, where you can also get stunning panoramic views of London. See the bridge in lights at night or plan to visit during a bridge lift. This iconic London landmark provides a perfect setting for a proposal, special occasion or first date.
  2. For those in the City over the festive period, don't miss out on ice skating in the heart of the City at Broadgate, or in the moat of London's most historic landmark, the Tower of London
  3. Take in spectacular views of the London skyline from One New Change's sixth floor roof terrace. It's free to access and overlooks the iconic dome of St Paul's Cathedral. Should you happen to have something to celebrate, there is a great selection of champagne bars and restaurants.
  4. Enjoy peace, quiet and serenity in the middle of the Square Mile at St Dunstan in the East. The ornamental vines, exotic plants, cobbled paths and bright flowers make this garden set in the ruins of a Wren church a truly spectacular site.
  5. Whisper sweet nothings to your favourite person at the whispering gallery in St Paul’s Cathedral – just make sure you are whispering to the right person… The gallery runs around the interior of the dome and due to a charming little quirk in its construction, your whispers can be heard on the opposite side.
  6. Refresh and rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit at Ajala Spa. Offering a range of beauty and holistic therapies, this collection of day spas, discreetly located within City Grange Hotels are the perfect way to relax.
  7. Look up at the inspiration for the modern day wedding cake – the never ending spires of St Brides Church. It is said, that in 1703, a baker's apprentice from Ludgate Hill fell in love with the daughter of his employer and asked her to marry him. He wanted to make an extravagant cake, and drew on the design of St Bride's Church for inspiration.
  8. See a show at the small but vibrant Bridewell Theatre or a concert at the atmospheric London Symphony Orchestra St Luke's.
  9. Cosy up and see a new release or an indie hit at the Barbican Cinemas. Screening the latest and greatest from the world of film, the Barbican also offers a unique programme of special seasons and events.
  10. Treat your loved one to something special from one of the luxury stores at the Royal Exchange. If you are in the City over the festive period, see the nearby Christmas lights at other shopping locations such as Leadenhall Market and Bow Lane.
