Supporting Strategic Leadership for the City of London

The Mayoral Advisory Board plays a key role in strengthening the strategic impact of the Lord or Lady Mayor of the City of London. Its purpose is to provide expert guidance, continuity, and practical support to help each Mayor deliver a focused and effective programme that promotes the City and drives long-term growth.

Why the Board Matters

Each year, the incoming Lord or Lady Mayor brings a unique perspective, shaped by their professional background and experience. This diversity enriches the Mayoralty and ensures that each term reflects the breadth of talent and expertise within the City. The Mayoral Advisory Board helps channel this individuality into a programme that aligns with the City’s long-term strategic priorities, ensuring continuity, coherence, and impact across successive Mayoral terms.

What the Board Does

The Mayoral Advisory Board offers tailored support to each incoming Mayor, recognising their individual strengths and sector expertise. Its responsibilities include:

  • Programme Review: Evaluating the proposed annual programme against key criteria such as trade promotion and inward investment.
  • Execution Support: Monitoring progress and offering input to keep the programme on track.
  • Advice: Serving as a trusted sounding board throughout the Mayoral year.
  • Coordination: Liaising with the Chair of the City of London Corporation’s General Purposes Committee to ensure alignment with broader City priorities.

The Board complements, rather than replaces, other engagements that the Mayor may pursue independently.
