Whistleblowing is the term used when someone who works in, or for an organisation, wishes to raise concerns about malpractice in the organisation (for example, crimes, civil offences, miscarriages of justice, dangers to health and safety or the environment), and the covering up of any of these.

It allows an employee to raise, confidentially, any concerns they may have about the action(s) of persons, such as a colleague or an elected Member, which do not fall under the remit of complaints or grievance policies; and also concerns that are within the public interest, and reasonably believed to be true.
