This ID must be an original and not a photocopy. You can use an expired form of ID as long as it looks like you and has the same name used when you registered to vote.

Details of which forms of ID are acceptable can be found on the Electoral Commission website.

If you do not have one of these forms of ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline to apply for a VAC is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024.

The elections

There are three separate elections:

  • The Mayor of London
  • Greater London Assembly London wide members
  • Greater London Assembly Constituency Members. The City of London, Barking and Dagenham, Newham and Tower Hamlets form one constituency, City and East, and will elect a constituency member.

The overall running and coordination of the elections London wide is undertaken by the London Elects team based at the Greater London Authority headquarters at City Hall.

Who can vote?

All British, Commonwealth and European Citizens who reside in London and are currently on the Electoral Register or who register by Tuesday 16 April can vote in these elections.

Ballot papers

There will be three ballot papers.

  • The Mayoral ballot paper will be pink
  • the Constituency Member ballot paper will be yellow
  • the London Member ballot paper will be orange

The full list of candidates for all three contests will be available on the London Elects website after the close of nominations, on Wednesday 27 March.

Voting by post

As in previous years it is possible to return your postal vote by hand to the Guildhall or any polling station in the City. However, you are now required to complete a short form when returning a postal vote by hand. Please allow time for this.

It is not possible to return more than five postal voting packs by hand, in addition to your own.
