We pride ourselves on ensuring that your funeral experience at the City of London is as efficient and smooth running as possible as we know that this is a very difficult time. Our Bereavement Services team are available to advise you in person, in writing, by telephone or by email so please do not hesitate to contact us if we can provide any further information to what is in this guide.

Please use this section of the website to help you decide on the type of service you would like and your chapel of choice. We have a wide range of options, for any budget, and anyone may be cremated here irrespective of faith or the area in which you live.

Price information with all our costs relating to Cremation can be accessed online via our website or is available as a separate brochure.

Modern Crematorium North and South Chapels

Our Modern Crematorium is located a short distance from the main entrance to the Cemetery and offers a modern yet appropriate setting for Cremation services. The building is of a late 20th Century design and has a chapel on the North and South side.

Both our North and South Chapels seat 100 people and have large sliding glass doors that open out to a covered area where a further 200 to 300 mourners can stand, view and listen to a funeral using an external PA system. They are both equipped with piped church organs, large visual tribute screens, a digital music system, and the ability to live stream a funeral ceremony to those who are unable to attend in person. Just behind the Modern Crematorium we have a floral tribute area where you can lay flowers or dedications following your service. We also have waiting rooms and fully accessible toilet facilities adjacent to both chapels for all visitors.

Musical tributes

Music can often be a very important part of any funeral and we feel that it is important that this side of the service is completely taken care of for you. At the City of London Cemetery & Crematorium all our ceremonial chapels are equipped with the Wesley Media digital music system and a database that can cater for any taste, requirement or style. If you request a piece of music that is not in our existing database, your Funeral Director can order it from Wesley Media for you as long as they have at least 48 hours before your service.

The standard service time in all of our chapels is 40 minutes, during which you can choose up to four pieces of music to be played. This should all be arranged through your Funeral Director in advance of your service. The normal format would be to have one piece of music played as you enter the service, one for quiet reflection, one during the committal and one when you exit. If you book a longer service, then more music can be played, but please note there are additional charges for this option. We strongly discourage bringing CDs or DVDs on the day and ask that you arrange all music with your Funeral Director in advance of the service.

Visual tributes

We have large visual screens in our Crematorium Chapels, and a single visual screen in our Traditional Crematorium chapels. These allow videos and photographs to be displayed during the service if you wish.  Presentations to be played in the North or South Chapels should be arranged through your Funeral Director in advance of your service.  These presentations are produced by our supplier Wesley Media (additional charges apply).  Presentations for the traditional crematorium are played at no extra cost and must be produced by the family. Presentations must be compatible with Microsoft Windows and ideally be formatted using PowerPoint. These presentations must be delivered to our bereavement services office for testing at least 24 hours before the service is due to take place.  We are doing everything possible to bring the professionally produced visual tribute system to the East Chapel in the near future.

Live streaming (webcasting)

Both of our Modern Crematorium Chapels (North and South) have the facility to live-stream HD video and sound from a funeral ceremony for family and friends who are unable to attend in person. This facility is provided by our digital music supply, Wesley Media, and must be arranged directly with them or through a funeral director. There is an additional charge associated with this service and is shown in our Price Information page  or is available as a separate brochure.
