On this page, we share a range of information and resources to support City of London children in care and care leavers. We have brought these together in one place to support young people, their carers and those professionals working with them to be able to quickly access information and support. All services are either statutory provision, commissioned, supported or quality assured by the City of London Children and Families Service. Further information on other services, including those for children living in the Square Mile can be found on the Family Information Service.

Introduction to the Virtual School

Virtual School is the name given by the Government to the team of adults who support the education of young people who are in (or have been in) the care system. Andrew Russell is the Head Teacher of the Virtual School. All young people in care and in education are the virtual school students.

Andrew’s job is to support you and your social workers, key workers, foster carers and school or college staff to help you achieve great things in your education! Andrew will attend your termly Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings where possible. These are the meetings in your school or college where we talk with you about the progress you are making and the support you need. Andrew will also arrange extra tuition if needed. You can contact Andrew through your social workers. Andrew works at the guildhall for two days a week during school terms.
