Non Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM)

Date updated: 11/08/2023

The Square Mile is within the London Low Emission Zone for Non Road Mobile Machinery.

All NRMM engines are required to meet Euro Stage IV. The only exception is if it can be demonstrated that Stage IV equipment is not available, in which case NRMM must be Stage IIIB compliant or fitted with particle traps and/or catalytic exhaust treatment wherever possible.

All NRMM on site must be registered. Go to the NRMM engine register and complete the form.

A practical guidance for site operators on the processes and procedures that should be used on all development sites is on the Greater London Authority's Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM).

More information on managing construction site emissions and NRMM emission research projects is at Centre for Low Emission Construction.

For more information on emerging low emission and alternative non-diesel technologies for NRMM download the 'Low Emission NRMM guide'. The guide details low emission technologies and alternative power sources for NRMM in Greater London.
