Draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy 2027-2033 Consultation
As a unitary authority, the City of London Corporation is the Lead Local Flood Authority for the Square Mile.
The Flood and Water Management Act 2010 assigns responsibilities to Lead Local Flood Authorities including the requirement to develop, maintain and monitor a strategy for local flood risk management in its area and that risk management authorities and the public must be consulted about the strategy.
The third cycle of local flood risk management is now due, which requires an updated strategy to be delivered from 2027-2033.
A draft version of updated Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS) is now available to review. The LFRMS details the flood risk that the Square Mile faces and sets out a new strategic framework for the City Corporation and other partners to follow in order to manage and monitor the risk and impact of flooding in the Square Mile.
A Strategic Environmental Assessment and Habitat Regulations Assessment have been undertaken to support the development of the LFRMS and are also available to review.
Public consultation
We are holding a public consultation period on the draft LFRMS until midnight (00:00) on Friday 28 August 2026.
A pdf version of the draft LFRMS is available to review below.
A paper copy can be requested by telephone on 020 7606 3030.
Please send all comments to the Flood Risk Team.

What happens next
Responses to the consultation will be considered along with feedback gathered from direct engagement with key stakeholders. This will inform the development of the final version of the LFRMS.
We intend to bring the final version of the LFRMS to the Planning and Transportation Committee in November 2026 to ask for its formal adoption.
Further information
The approach for public consultation was approved at the City Corporation's 22 June 2026 Planning and Transportation Committee.
