Credit licence

If you offer goods or services on credit or lend money to consumers, you need to be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority

Nursing agencies

The licensing of nursing agencies is administered by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). If you wish to register a nursing agency please visit the Care Quality Commission website

Second hand goods

You are not required to have a licence to sell second hand goods, either in a shop or on a market stall in the City of London geographical area.

Sunday trading notifications

Shops no longer have to register with the local authority to open on a Sunday. If the retail area of your shop is less than 280 square meters, you have unrestricted opening on Sundays. If the retail area of your shop is more than 280 square meters, you are allowed to open for six hours between the times of 10am and 6pm.

Voluntary sector transport

Some voluntary operators of minibuses and, in a few cases, larger buses, are able to carry fare-paying passengers under certain restricted conditions without the need of having a passenger carrying vehicle (PCV) licence. Mini Bus Permits (Section 19 Permit) for voluntary and non-profit making organisations are issued by the Department of Transport

Further information about regulations concerning taxis and private hire vehicles can be found on the Public Carriage Office  pages of the Transport for London (TFL) website

Weighbridge operator licence

The Weights and Measures Act 1985 requires operators of public weighbridges need to hold a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector of Weights and measures. This ensures that they can perform their duties competently and honestly. No one can operate public weighing equipment unless he or she holds a certificate. There are currently no public weighbridges in the City of London and therefore Public Weighbridge Operators tests are not conducted by this authority.
