The City of London Corporation encourage streetworks contractors working in the City of London to carry out their operations in a safe and considerate manner, with regard to pedestrians and road users.

The City Corporation's Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme (CCSS) challenges contractors to strive for the best standards in the industry, awarding those that consistently perform to the highest levels with an industry respected Gold Award.

The scheme is open to all contractors undertaking streetworks within the City of London. There is no membership fee. Members agree to follow the code of good practice and display the CCSS signs on site.

By joining the scheme members agree to follow the Code of Conduct. This commitment, which exceeds the legal minimum requirements, ensures that general standards of work are raised, and the condition and safety of the City streets and pavements are improved for the benefit of everyone living, working or travelling through the Square Mile.

If your company would like to become a member of the scheme you can complete our online membership application form. Please select either the contractor or utility form.

The scores are collated quarterly and judged annually and includes public feedback. The judges consist of the City Streetworks Team, Traffic Management Team, Resurfacing Manager, Environmental Noise Team and the City’s Access Team. This panel carries out annual site inspections alongside regular monitoring by our Highways Officers throughout the year. The Lord Mayor chairs the yearly ceremony.

The five scoring factors considered for utilities are:

  • Accountability and Response time
  • Promotion and Innovation
  • City Investment
  • Planning and Coordination
  • Commitment to the CCSS

We hold workshops and presentations on new legislation and innovation ideas for future technology.
