The City of London Corporation is reopening Arthur Street at its junction with King William Street for people walking, wheeling and cycling only. The space will be redesigned to include a new tree, public seating, cycle parking and wider pavements.

These improvements will create a safer, more pleasant space for everyone.

What happens next

Temporary pavement areas will be introduced from January 2026; however, for safety reasons, a large area will remain fenced while the permanent scheme is being finalised.

Construction of the permanent scheme will begin from June 2026 and is expected to be completed by Autumn 2026.
