Bunhill, Barbican and Golden Lane Healthy Neighbourhood
Bunhill, Barbican and Golden Lane healthy neighbourhood
The Bunhill, Barbican and Golden Lane Healthy Neighbourhood Plan is a set of proposals which prioritise street space for people walking, cycling and using public transport. It will make these unique neighbourhoods more vibrant and successful places where people can lead active and healthy lives.
As part of a joint project between the City of London and Islington Council, we held a public consultation seeking people’s views on the draft plan in late 2024.
Over 1,000 people took part in the consultation, and the plan was approved in July 2025. View the Committee report and appendixes including the consultation findings in the 14 May 2025 Streets & Walkways Sub Committee webpage.

What is a healthy streets approach?
Healthy Streets is an approach adopted by many London authorities to help create a vibrant, successful city where people can live active, healthy lives. It is a system of policies and strategies to help Londoners use cars less and walk, cycle, and use public transport more. It aims to create streets that feel pleasant, safe, and attractive and identify the barriers to movement that restrict the community, particularly the most vulnerable.
