Smithfield Market, or London Central Markets as it is officially known, is the only wholesale Market that remains located on its original site within the Square Mile. The East and West Market Buildings were completed in 1868, livestock and meat has been traded on the site for over 1000 years.

There is a Market Security team who operates and provide an effective 24-hour security service for the Market and ensure that a safe environment exist for all Market users. Security staff are always happy to talk to if there are any queries or concerns. The 24/7 CCTV system also supports the Market safety and security and assist in the health and safety of Market employees and members of public accessing the Market.

Although the Market officially closes at midday, the majority of stalls operate between 3am and 9am, with the busiest period being between 3am and 6am. Therefore, we advise you to arrive within this period in order that you have the widest choice of meat and see the Market at its liveliest.

The Rotunda Car Park is located opposite the Market on West Smithfield and provides around 500 parking spaces. If you are using the car park between 2.30am and 9am a discounted fee of £1.50 applies for customers. There is a goods lift, located in Grand Avenue to ease transfer of your purchases to the car park.

If you are arriving in a larger vehicle, there are loading bays for vans and lorries around the edge of the three Market buildings.
