The City of London Wi-Fi network offers speeds of up to 200 megabits per second across the Square Mile, and is free to all users an on unlimited basis, something never seen before in London.  The network is advertised as “O2 Wi-Fi” and requires a one time login.

The multi-million pound project was installed in 2017 and is one of the largest investments in wireless infrastructure ever seen in London, and is more technically advanced than Wi-Fi networks found in other leading global financial centres, including New York.

The network offers 156 access points across the Square Mile.

A network of 200 4G “small cells” (mobile equipment installed on street lighting columns) have recently been installed across the Square Mile with the City’s wireless partner Cornerstone.

The City of London and Cornerstone are in discussions with mobile operators to encourage roll out of the 5G equipment across the Square Mile with a view to ensuring that the City is one of the first cities in the UK to benefit from 5G coverage.
