No.1 Poultry
Considered one of the greatest masterpieces of the postmodernist style in London, this unusual building resembles a large ship (huge cornices, a prow jutting out with railings) making it's colourful way along this City thoroughfare. Its pièce de rèsistance is a half-acre roof garden, offering great views and plenty of green space.
In 2016, following proposals to alter it, it received government recognition with a listing at grade II, making it the youngest listed building in England.
No 1 Poultry was architect James Stirling's last completed building, designed by Stirling in 1985 and completed in 1997, five years after his death. He was knighted in recognition of his contribution to architecture just days before his death and in 1996, the RIBA even renamed their prestigious Building of the Year Award the Stirling Prize after him.
