History

Distaff Lane Garden was opened in 2018. The space was designed by Tom Stuart-Smith with the aim of supporting biodiversity and providing shade and plant interest. The design of the water wall to the rear of the garden is inspired by fish scales recognising the areas historic importance as a fish market.

The sculpture Icarus by the artist Michael Ayrton dates from 1973 and was relocated to the new garden from its previous site in Old Change Court.
