History

Jubilee Gardens was first opened to mark the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 1977.

A project to redesign the garden into a climate-resilient urban oasis was completed in 2025 to showcase how constrained spaces can support biodiversity, beauty, and public use.

The garden was designed with Studio Weave and Tom Massey, delivered by City Corporation officers in collaboration with the Eastern City BID and part of The City Cluster Vision and the Cools Street and Greening programme.

Featuring passive irrigation, engineered soils, and recycled materials, it hosts resilient trees and diverse plant communities adapted to sun and shade. Seasonal interest comes from bulbs, grasses, and pollinator-friendly perennials. The garden sets a benchmark for sustainable, low-maintenance design in London’s most built-up and challenging spaces.
