Lord Mayor biography
Vincent Keaveny is the 693rd Lord Mayor of the City of London
During his year as Lord Mayor, Alderman Keaveny will act as a spokesman for the City, leading overseas business delegations to key international markets on behalf of the UK financial and professional services industry.
In the role he will meet government representatives, alongside business leaders and policy makers both at home and abroad. He will look to strengthen economic ties with the UK, identify new business opportunities and promote the UK as a top global destination for foreign investment.
Alderman Keaveny will be reinforcing the message that the City of London is a national asset for the UK, accounting for billions of pounds in revenue and taxes and creating millions of jobs across the country – as well as being a unique, cultural and diverse institution.
During his year as the Lord Mayor he will promote his theme of People with Purpose. This will champion a purpose-led and people-focused UK Financial and Professional Services sector; growing the global competitiveness of the UK as a world leader in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and sustainable finance and home to the best and most diverse global talent, driving social mobility at all levels.
Graduated from University College with a Bachelor of Civil Law and subsequently a Master of Letters from Trinity College, Dublin
Vincent is a partner in the international business law firm, DLA Piper. He advises on debt capital markets, structured finance and securitisation transactions in the UK and banks, financial institutions and corporate clients in the UK and internationally on banking, finance and capital markets transactions.
He is listed as a leading practitioner in his area of practice by all of the principal legal directories and is included in the legal ‘500’ Hall of Fame for securitisation practitioners. Until May 2019 he was International Co-Chair of the Financial Services Sector at DLA Piper. In 2014/15 he served as President of the City of London Law Society. He is an Honorary Bencher of Gray’s Inn.
Previous/current professional involvement
Vincent was elected as Alderman for the Ward of Farringdon Within in 2013 and served as Sheriff of the City of London in 2018-19. Since his election, he has served on a number of City of London Corporation Committees. He is currently a member of the Policy & Resources Committee and the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Sub-Committee. He also a Governor of the City of London School. Vincent is Co-Chair of the HMT & BEIS Socio-Economic Diversity Taskforce.
He is a Liveryman of the City of London Solicitors’, the Woolmen’s, Distillers’, Spectacle Makers’, Stationers’, Framework Knitters’, Upholders’ and Security Professionals’ Companies. He served as Master Solicitor in 2014/15.
