The City of London Academies Trust (COLAT) is driven by the ambition to provide world-class experiences and deliver exceptional educational outcomes for the young people it serves.

Combining the heritage and tradition of the City of London Corporation with an innovative and enterprising approach to teaching and learning, the Trust aims to ensure that each of its schools can be judged as ‘outstanding’ within three years of joining.

Students are taught in an environment that promotes academic, creative, sporting, linguistic and personal achievement. All Trust academies draw upon the traditions, institutions, heritage and historical successes of London to furnish each of their diverse communities with life-transforming learning experiences. In doing so, we believe that our young people will develop into successful, compassionate young adults who make a positive contribution to their local, national and global communities.

The Trust is currently made up of eight schools (three primary, four secondary and one sixth form centre) across Hackney, Islington, Southwark and Newham.

Galleywall Primary, City of London Academy

Galleywall is a newly-built, two form entry school in Bermondsey which opened in September 2016 with an initial intake of 60 Reception pupils. It will reach its full complement of 420 pupils by 2023. The academy is an inclusive, non-denominational school in an area where there is a pressing and increasing need for additional places.

A two-form entry primary school, Redriff was judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in its latest inspection, and aims to help children become aspirational, adventurous, individual, enlightened and compassionate.

City of London Primary Academy Islington

City of London Primary Academy Islington opened in September 2017 with its first intake of Reception pupils. The school is currently in temporary accommodation whilst its permanent school is being built on the old Richard Cloudesley School site, to the north of the Golden Lane Estate. COLPAI is a non-selective, fully inclusive school where pupils are drawn from and reflect the local community.

City of London Academy Southwark is a vibrant and innovative school in the heart of Bermondsey and was the first academy to be opened by the City of London Corporation. City of London Academy Highgate Hill

The City of London Academy Highgate Hill opened in September 2017 on the site of Mount Carmel Catholic Girls’ College in the north of Islington. The school is non-selective, non-denominational, and offers places to both boys and girls. The model for the academy’s curriculum replicates that of the very successful City of London Academy Islington, and the student cohort is of a similar profile and prior attainment.

City of London Academy Shoreditch Park

The City of London Academy Shoreditch Park is a brand new secondary academy which opened in September 2017. It is currently based in a purpose-built modular building, and will be for four years, before moving to its permanent home in a new building in Shoreditch Park. The Trust intends to establish the school as a centre of excellence for secondary education in Hackney.

City of London Academy Highbury Grove

City of London Academy Highbury Grove joined the Trust in December 2017. The academy is non-selective, non-denominational, free to attend and open to both boys and girls. The Trust aims to build on the school’s inspiring creative and musical offering (under its previous name, Highbury Grove School) by providing access to outstanding education, and cultural and learning opportunities in partnership with major City of London Corporation institutions.

Newham Collegiate Sixth Form, City of London Academy

Newham Collegiate Sixth Form (NCS) in East Ham joined the Trust in January 2018. The NCS is the academic A level centre for a group of Newham schools including Cumberland, Kingsford, Lister, Little Ilford, Plashet, Rokeby, Royal Docks, Sarah Bonnell and Stratford School Academy. It also takes students from other secondary schools in the borough and surrounding areas. The school is also in partnership with University College London, providing opportunities to both students and staff. The school has gone from strength to strength and has seen outstanding success in its A level results since opening.

The City Academy Hackney is an outstanding school and sixth form for boys and girls aged 11-18 years. The City of London Academy, Islington

The City of London Academy, Islington is a school and sixth form for boys and girls ages 11-19 years. Sponsored jointly by the City of London Corporation and City University, London it was judged good by Ofsted in November 2012. It opened in 2008 as an Academy and moved into a purpose built, state-of-the-art buildings in 2010. The academy provides a high quality education for young people in a secure, supportive environment, raising their aspirations and standards of educational achievement, and building positive partnerships with local people and organisations.
