In partnership with the Department of Environment, Farming and Rural affairs (DEFRA), we are creating a City Markets Food School. The school will support market prosperity by offering learning opportunities to current and future Market Tenants.

Starting with a pilot facility at Billingsgate Market, we will run a comprehensive range of courses. The courses will be open to market tenants, the food industry, schools, and further education. Creating an educational hub based at the heart of the City Wholesale Food Markets.

The pilot at Billingsgate will aim to establish an on-going curriculum of learning, which can be carried forward into the new consolidated Market, due to open in Dagenham Docks in 2028. With the aim to support the Market Tenants, learners in the Food Industry and the local community, a wide range of learning opportunities will be available: from Food ID, preparation and cooking, through to basic maths, English and IT.
