Save money, and reduce waste by affordably renting out useful things like drills, sound systems, sewing machines, carpet cleaners and more!

See what you can borrow from one of the 22 lockers at the Barbican Library here: City of London Library of Things

Together We Can Borrow More and Waste Less

Library of Things is a place where you can borrow useful things for your home, projects and adventures.

Why borrowing is better than buying:

  • It's more affordable
  • Cuts down on clutter
  • Access same-day bookings
  • Meet your neighbours, get involved in your community, or even learn a new skill
  • Sharing the things you won't use often is a simple action we can take to reduce waste and support a more sustainable way of living

Library of Things has already helped Londoners collectively save £6.5 million and prevent almost 300 tonnes of waste from going to landfill across its existing London locations.

A 25% concession rate is available to anyone who would find it useful - no questions asked.

How it Works

  1. Join online and reserve the item you need
  2. Collect it from the self-service lockers in the Barbican Library
  3. Use your item with optional guides and support
  4. Return it for the next person to enjoy!
