Amphitheatre Explorers (KS2-3)

Explore a real archaeological site with a trained archaeologist. Uncover more about the discovery of London’s Roman Amphitheatre, the topography of Roman London and what happened in one of its most important buildings. Lasting around 1.5 hours, these facilitated sessions are designed to provide an exciting insight into life in the capital nearly 2000 years ago.

Cost: £125 + VAT per class/1.5-2hr session, funding available.

Great Fire of London (KS1-2)

This will include creative and discussion-based activities looking at what life was like in London before, during and after the fire. You and your group will be introduced to Samuel Pepys and Sir Christopher Wren in the heart of the City, before heading into Guildhall Art Gallery to map out the spread of the fire, meet a Fire Judge and design a monument to commemorate the City that rose from the ashes.

There is an option to add a self-guided visit to The Monument to the Great Fire of London to this workshop.

The Big Picture – maths through movement and art (KS1-2)

Embark on a journey into the world of art and maths, bringing to life one of Britain's largest displayed oil-on-canvas paintings through creative dance and drama. The workshop, run by performing arts specialists Artis, will ignite curiosity as students physically and creatively explore the mathematics hidden within an awe-inspiring painting - Copley’s 'The Defeat of the Floating Batteries at Gibraltar' - supporting their understanding of number, measurement and geometry as well as art and history.

As part of the adventure you will use specially crafted resources, to take a self-led tour around the gallery, unlocking further maths immersed in the gallery’s rich tapestry of art.

New FREE interactive virtual workshop - Explore three Roman London Sites (KS2-3)

In partnership with London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE, we are delighted to offer a live, interactive multi-sensory workshop that enables students to virtually explore three important Roman sites in London:

  • London’s Roman Amphitheatre
  • Billingsgate Roman House and Baths
  • London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE

This 60-minute session challenges pupils to think critically and enhance their understanding of the past, unlocking the sights and smells of Roman London as they explore the accompanying replica artefact box.

School Visits Fund

The City of London School Visits Fund may be able to support your school visit to Guildhall Art Gallery and London’s Roman Amphitheatre. This fund provides grants of up to £300 towards the costs of facilitated sessions, admission, transport and/or teacher cover for eligible schools.
