The City of London Corporation supports humanitarian aid in Ukraine. Help and advice for staying safe during heatwaves and the hot weather

Birch Wood and surrounding Oak Hill make up a hilly swath of old coppice woodland that was once part of Theydon Estate - crossed here and there with streams, dotted with bogs and broken up with occasional meadow plains, it often makes for picturesque scenes.

Things to do in Birch Wood

  • Explore the Wood on foot, by bike, on horseback or with your dog
  • Walk north to explore iron age Ambresbury Banks and pick up our Oak Trail
  • Head east to catch glimpses of the deer in our Deer Sanctuary - please note, the Sanctuary is not open to the public
  • Bring your camera along and try to capture the unique landscape of the Wood
  • Keep an eye out for wild deer, woodpeckers and other Forest wildlife
